Upright Microscopes
The Upright Microscope for Your Favorite Patch Clamp Technique
The Axio Examiner is holistically optimized for low vibration, generous room for micromanipulation, and patch clamp accessories. Use Axio Examiner for your demanding low noise single channel recordings; all motors switch off as soon as they have reached their target positions. In addition, you can press a button to actuate active grounding. This ensures that any potentials still present leak off completely.
Leave running experiments undisturbed: Control all motorized functions remotely via the docking station or ZEN imaging software.
- Take advantage of the flexible stand design with two lower bodies, four upper bodies, and a number of interfaces. The stand versions are .A1, .D1 and .Z1.
- Choose from motorization options for z-drive, transmitted light shutter, condenser drive, reflector turret, or reflected light shutter. All motors disconnect from the power supply automatically after reaching their target position. The motor-off function gives additional active grounding.
- Move the objective instead of the sample when focusing on a fixed stage microscope.
- The sample space is accessible from the sides and front, and can be extended to more than 100 mm.
- Oblique illumination is integrated into every condenser with a modulator disk which can be rotated through 360 degrees.

Reliable Microstructure and Material Defect Analysis in Comfortable Conditions
Choose the best configuration for your application from three stand versions of Axio Lab.A1: Reflected light illumination or transmitted light illumination, Axio Lab.A1 for orthoscopy, Axio Lab.A1 for conoscopy.
With Axio Lab.A1, you are equipped for a broad range of applications with high sample throughput in metallography. When examining structures, you analyze the grain size and microstructure of metals or capture information about the mechanisms that has led to a material defect, such as fatigue, corrosion, stress cracks, or fractures. Document your results with a broad range of 1.3 to 12 megapixel digital cameras.
- Use the 4-position reflector turret to select the best contrasting techniques for your microstructure. Add further contrasting techniques using push and click modules.
- A 50W halogen lamp and power supply are integrated into the stand. Alternatively, an LED lamp provides consistent color temperature and low power consumption over an extremely long life time.
- All main controls are accessible with only one hand. Study the smallest structures while sitting in a relaxed posture and recording each and every material defect without experiencing fatigue – even over prolonged periods.
- Use the stand versions for orthoscopy or conoscopy to examine your birefringent materials in polarization contrast.
- Axio Lab.A1 for polarization are equipped with a centerable 4 position nosepiece turret.
Axio Lab.A1 constitutes an all-purpose polarization microscope for applications in geology, mineralogy, and the exploration of fossil fuel resources. It provides a wealth of information regarding refractive indices, cleavages, double refraction, extinction angles, optical path differences, and the number and angle of optical axes.
Extend your application range with measuring compensators. Choose between fixed and rotatable compensators to visualize large and small path differences and determine the relative optical character of fibrous substances. Measure cleavages and extinction angles with the 360° rotary stage.
The conoscopy stand features a logically coupled analyzer and Bertrand lens. Swing the Bertrand lens into the beam path, and the analyzer swings into the beam path as well.

High Resolution and High Speed
The on-axis zoom microscope Axio Zoom.V16 delivers both high resolution and a zoom range of 16x. Zoom seamlessly from overview to the smallest details – with a large free working distance and a single objective. Quickly and easily stitch large tile-images at low to medium magnification with impressive double resolution.
eZoom Images: Twice As Sharp
The zoom body is the core of stereo and zoom microscopes. When zooming, lenses have to be positioned precisely. Until now, a metal component milled with great care would determine the exactness of this movement, and with it the optical quality of your microscope.
Zoom between large object fields in minute detail: Your Axio Zoom.V16 combines its 16x zoom with a high numerical aperture and large working distance. Achieve resolutions up to twice as high, even at low and medium magnifications. Don’t waste your time stitching tile-images – image entire components with just a few shots.
Optimized Zoom for Your Applications: The eZoom of Axio Zoom.V16 works with a motorized iris diaphragm coupled to the zoom. Simply select the best mode for your purpose:
- Brightness mode: Observe fluorescence images over the complete zoom range with highest possible brightness.
- Eyepiece mode: Ideal for ocular observation using conventional illumination. Zoom from large object fields with maximum depth of field to high magnifications with maximum resolution.
- Camera mode: Axio Zoom.V16 adapts to the performance of your camera, achieving an optimal relation between resolution and depth of field across the whole zoom range.
EpiRel produces a relief-like image contrast. Slightly incline the illumination with the EpiRel slider in the Epi-Illuminator Z of your Axio Zoom.V16. Discover textures and small ridges, particularly at high magnification. Objects will take on more contour than in conventional brightfield.
